Rabbits love eating fresh vegetables. It’s important to give them their daily serving of vegetables everyday. We’ve compiled a list of vegetables for your rabbit that can be bought at your local supermarkets and groceries nearest to you.
STAPLE VEGGIES
The following vegetables can be given to your rabbit as a staple, meaning they can eat these as much of these as they want. Not all rabbits enjoy the same set of vegetables. Some will love basil more, while some will love lettuce more. Be sure to try each kind to see what they love. It’s also ideal to feed your rabbit at least three different kinds of vegetables a day.
- Arugula
- Basil
- Bok Choy
- Carrots (considered a treat because of its sweetness)
- Cilantro (Wansoy)
- Dill
- Fennel
- Mint
- Mustard Greens (Mustasa)
- Parsley*
- Romaine Lettuce (NOT Iceberg!)
- Watercress
- Wheatgrass
*should not be fed everyday.
If you are under a very tight budget, the cheapest vegetable available in the market that is safe for rabbits are Camote Tops (talbos ng kamote). Although they provide very little nutrition compared to the ones listed above. Some also give Kangkong to their bunnies but be cautious as while some rabbits can tolerate it, some get diarrhea from it.
FROOTY TREATS
Here are some fruits and roots that can be given as treats. Please note that these are for treats only and should only be given in small amounts and not regularly.
- Apples
- Bananas
- Mangoes
- Melon
- Papaya
- Pears
- Pineapple
- Strawberries
- Watermelon
WHAT TO AVOID
Under any circumstances, please DO NOT feed the following foods to your rabbits as they are harmful to them:
- Coffee Beans
- Chocolate
- House Plants (Since most are toxic to rabbits)
- Iceberg Lettuce
- Kang Kong
- Onions
- Pechay

Remember, vegetables and fruits are only meant to be a small portion of their diet – 10% for vegetables, while 5% for fruits and treats. If you’re looking for treats that are safe and are specifically made for rabbits, please visit our rabbit shop, Rabbito 🙂

Hi! Kangkong is water spinach and is a big no no as it can cause diarrhea in rabbits. For Pechay, it’s Chinese cabbage and can cause the same too.

so bok choy also called pechay locally is ok? what about saluyot and kulitis? I live in Palawan and it’s hard to get a variety of fresh greens here. kangkong is the most readily available and what most locals feed their rabbits. My rabbits get mostly timothy hay, but trying to figure out which local greens are ok to give to them.

From the ones you’ve mentioned, we’re only sure about bok choy. Some other rabbit owners in the provinces also give banana leaves too which is safe for rabbits 🙂 Thanks!
